Is it possible to ban chinese products in India?

Introduction:-

So, from a long time we have seen people in our country, demanding Govt. to ban chinese products and urging others to boycott chinese products.After the outbreak of the ongoing pandemic COVID-19, the demand for banning the chinese products have been increasing rapidly. So, here i am going to give my views regarding this topic.

Here i am going to explain the following:-
1- Which type of products are imported in India from china?
2-Why we should and why we shouldn't ban chinese products?
 3-Is it possible to ban the chinese products and services?



Which products are imported in India from China?

Electronic equipments like Smartphone and  laptops,machines, engines and pumps, organic chemicals, fertilizers, iron and steel products, plastic products, gems and precious metals, medical equipments and medicines. These are some of the products which are imported from China. 











Why Govt. should ban chinese products in India?

1- India has been trying its best to convince UN to declare Masood Azhar, chief of Jaish-e- mohammad as a global terrorist but China is blocking India's way using it's veto power. After the Pulwama attack, India again requested UN to declare Masood Azhar as global terrorist, every country supported India except China and China again blocked India's way using veto power. Not only this, but Indo-China relationship is not that good when it comes to territory. There has been a long territorial dispute between the two countries since 1950.

2- Not only this, China has also blocking India's way to become a member of Nuclear Supplier Group(NSG)by using its veto power from a long time. NSG Iis a group of nuclear supplying countries whose aim is to prevent the increase in the no of nuclear weapons and products by controlling import and export of materials through which nuclear weapons canbe manufactured.

3-Imports from china also hurts the Indian manufactures especially Medium Small and Micro Enterprises(MSME). MSME produce about 12 types of products and imports from china are mainly the same 12 type of products that MSME  manufacture. Since the cost of chinese products are low as compared to the products of MSME, so people mostly preffer the chinese products and thus it affecting the indian manufacturers.Many Indian Toys industries were closed because of the vast imports of cheaper Chinese toys.

4- Many chinese products such as crackers, colours and toys are considered to be very harmful and dangerous for the environment due to the use of harmful chemicals and low quality materials during the manufacturing process.

5-India has a huge trade deficit with China. For the year 2017-18, India’s imports from China are worth $76.2 billion dollars, whereas India’s exports to China are worth $33 billion dollars. So, there is a need to reduce this trade deficit. 

6-The more recent reason relates to the, the strain of coronavirus originated from China and spread around the world, creating a crisis that led to widespread criticism of the Chinese government, due to its behavior of hiding real figures, including deliberately destroying evidence about the initial coronavirus outbreak, and not containing it on time, enabling the continuation of the 2020 Chunyun period. And, according to some sources, largely because of this irresponsibility, the virus has killed 239 thousand people and infected over 3.3 million worldwide. Countries including India, Philippines, and Vietnam have called for the boycott of Chinese goods, as have separatist movements in China itself.

Why Govt. shouldn't ban  chinese product?

1-There are about 800 chinese companies operating in India. They have their manufacturing facilities in various sectors such as Smartphone manufacturing, consumer appliance, construction equipment,power equipment, chemicals ,optical fibres etc which gives employment to lakhs of people in India which ultimately have a contribution in country's GDP. So if we ban chinese products, several indian sectors will be very badly affected costing lakhs of job. So we cant simply ban chinese products.

2-Chinese goods are cheaper when compared with domestic products. If we ban Chinese goods, poor and middle class people will be forced to spend more for necessities.

 Is it possible to ban the chinese products and services?

Even though Indian govt decides to impose ban on chinese products and end its trade relation with China, it wont be possible for the govt to impose the ban, since both the countries are abide to the rules and policies of WTO. So it wont be that easy for the govt to impose the ban on chinese products as to do so, it has to go through a lot of policies and procedure as prescribed by the WTO. So it will be completely depend on WTO, not on Indian govt whether the ban should be imposed or not. Accordingly WTO will direct the govt to take action and Govt is bound to follow the guidelines of WTO.

My Opinion

Yes, China has been involved in some Anti-India activities by sponsoring Pakistan to spread terrorism in India. And i also agree to the point that the China is responsible for the current scenario of the world and strict action should be taken against China. But before demanding for Chinese products, we also must not forget that Chinese companies gives the product at a best price and also gives employment to lakhs of people in India. If we ban the chinese products, many indian sectors will be severely affected resulting cutting of lakhs of jobs. Even if we want to put a ban on chinese products, it wont be that easy as we people are thinking because the govt is abide to the rules and regulations of WTO and Indian govt wont be able to put a ban on trade with China, until WTO orders to do so.

On Tuesday(5th May 2020) Manav Singh, a 17 year old class 12 student commited sucide after he was accused of harassing and molesting a girl.  The deceased, a resident of DLF Carlton Estate, Gurugram jumped from the balcony of his flat on 11th floor of the building at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday. Now Rishi Singh, brother of Manav Singh  has issued a statement on social media asserting that his brother was not a rapist and added that it had nothing to do with the Bois Locker Room, since the incident for which he was accused is said to be two years ago. So acording to Rishi's post ,two days before Manav commited sucide, a girl named Bhavleen Kaur posted a story on instagram and accused his brother of molesting and harrasing her at an event which took place 2 years ago when Manav was 15 years old. Starting  Of The Controversy Bois Locker Room   We all know about the recent  infamous 'Bois Locker Room' incident which  has created a storm over the social media. For the unaware, an Instagram group chat by the name “Bois locker room” where a bunch of male students, majority of whom are teenagers from different schools (Yes, schools) shared objectionable pictures of women, including underage girls, objectified them, made “jokes” about their body  . The incident came to light after a teen from South Delhi shared a screenshot over social media to expose the group chats.
