COVID-19: A Threat To Mankind

Currently the whole mankind is having a battle against a deadly virus called Corona. So in this blog, i am going to explaining you about this epidemic. Here i am going to explain, What is COVID-19? What is the origin of this deadly virus? How it has affected the whole world? Is there any vaccine for this epidemic ? What are the safety measures taken by Governments of all countries to prevent COVID-19? What should be done and should not  be done to prevent yourself from this virus.

What Is COVID-19?

What Is COVID-19?

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a recently discovered virus called Corona Virus.

How Does It Spread?

The virus  is mainly transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or exhales. These droplets are too heavy to hang in the air, and quickly fall on floors or surfaces. You can be infected by breathing in the virus if you are in close contact with someone who has been infected by this virus, or by touching a contaminated surface and then your eyes, nose or mouth.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Most infected people will develop mild to moderate symptoms.

Some common symptoms of this deadly virus are fever, tiredness and dry cough.
Some people may experience:
aches and pains.
nasal congestion.
runny nose.
sore throat.
diarrhoea.
On average it takes 5–6 days from when someone is infected with the virus for symptoms to show, however it can take up to 14 days.People with mild symptoms who are otherwise healthy should self-isolate. Should seek for medical help as soon as possible if you have a fever, a cough, and difficulty breathing. Call ahead.

What is the origin of the virus?

According to sources, it was accidentally got leaked from a virus testing lab in Wuhan, China and got mixed in the air and then it got spread in the near by seafood market, where it came in contact with the meat. And then it got spread to human through sea food.

There was a speculations that the Corona virus was man made i.e. it was engineered in the wuhan lab as a biological weapon by china

While little is known about the exact origins of COVID-19, experts muse evolution could have occurred in a non-human host such as a bat, then jumped to humans. Another theory is that an intermediate host was involved, with pangolins identified as a possible third party. In a third scenario, researchers suggest a non-pathogenic version of COVID-19 jumped from an animal to a human, then evolved into its current state.

Statistics:-

As of today, around 3.73 million  people around the world have been infected by COVID-19. Around 1.24 million people have recovered while aroundd 258k people have died till date. There is around 2.2milion active cases out of which 2.17million people are in mild condition while 50k people are in critical condition.

The total number of novel coronavirus cases in India today increased to 46,711 after 3,875 fresh Covid-19 cases emerged in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data from the Ministry of health and Family Welfare. The death toll in the country also rose by 194 to 1,583 since yesterday, it said.
There are currently 31,967 active cases since the outbreak while 13,160 patients have been discharged or cured of the highly contagious disease. One patient has migrated from the country. Apart from that, the total number of confirmed cases also include 111 foreign nationals.

How It Will Affect The Global Economy?

The global economy could shrink by up to 1 per cent in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, a reversal from the previous forecast of 2.5 per cent growth, the UN has said, warning that it may contract even further if restrictions on the economic activities are extended without adequate fiscal responses.

Is There Any Vaccine Available For Covid 19?

While over 100 vaccines are currently under pre-clinical trials and a couple of those have entered human trial stage, leading health experts have raised alarming questions about what if the world never sees a Covid-19 vaccine, as in the case of HIV and even dengue where there is no vaccine even after years of research.

Israel claims big breakthrough - says it has developed antibody against Coronavirus!

The Israel Institute for Biological Research (IIBR) has developed an antibody or passive vaccine which can attack and neutralise the virus responsible for COVID-19 within the bodies of those infected.

What Are The Steps Taken By Govt Of Different Countries To Fight Covid-19?

More and more countries have been forced to adopt strict measures to fight coronavirus, which first appeared in China late 2019 and quickly spread to other countries, resulting in over 200,000 deaths so far.

Initial measures such as shutting down borders and halting international flights were followed by domestic transportation restrictions, curfews and bans on mass mobility. The countries most affected by the virus experienced heavy burdens on their healthcare systems and witnessed shortages of medical equipment, medication and sanitary materials. While the measures aimed to stem the spread of the virus, they almost fully shut down daily life and economic activities, and governments quickly took steps to prevent such negative impacts. With direct aids, supportive acts for employees and employers, governments across the world attempted to help citizens shoulder financial and social burdens of the pandemic.
